Ultimate checklist to help you while moving to your first home

So you took the plunge, and have decided to move out, and move into your first home. No matter how long it took, no matter how much work you needed to invest, you’re finally here. And now you have one final task ahead of you – a checklist! If you want to make this transition as smooth and as comfortable as possible, we suggest you make a good checklist of all the stuff you need. Now, of course, you probably won’t have to get all of this stuff, the house or apartment may already come furnished with some of it. However, it doesn’t hurt to have it all in one place. For this reason, we have taken the liberty of writing up a little guide to help you out with this. You’ll notice we set it up according to the rooms of your home, but you can take this any way you like. After all, it is your home.

    The bathroom

First, get a good first good aid kit. Only set it up somewhere in the bathroom if the bathroom itself large, with good ventilation. You don’t want your first aid kit to get damp, no matter how well protected is inside its casing. It’s best if you put it somewhere dry and safe. Yes, we know its common practice to keep it in the bathroom, but that doesn’t mean this practice is right. You can, however, keep some medication and hygiene supplies there, if the label on them says it’s ok.

You of course, also need a toothbrush, soap, a plunger, toilet brush, and bath mats. These are all pretty self-explanatory. Don’t forget to bring your own towels, and some air fresheners as well. Always have extra of everything, just in case.

    The bedroom

Well, the first thing you want is a good bed, or at least a good mattress. You will spend one-third of your days on it, so you might as well go all out. Box spring and proper sheets are important as well. Sleeping poorly has many negative and adverse effects on your body and on your mind.

You also want to set up your bedroom properly. So, get a nice nightstand, and a dresser as well. If you like reading in your bed (who doesn’t?) then get a nice reading lamp as well. An alarm clock is, of course, a must, as well as a nice desk. A set of wonderful curtains can mean the world as well.

    Living room

The living room is the place where you will hopefully relax the most. It stands to reason that you should set it up in that way as well. So, first of all, get a nice coffee table, a couch, chairs, other things people can sit on. You want everybody to as comfortable as possible, right? Then, a good TV in the center of the room. And of course, you want a good TV aerial installation done as soon as possible so you can actually use it.

Some artwork, like paintings or sculptures set about, can really tie your room together. Get a rug for this reason as well. A couple of lamps strategically placed can mean the world as well.

    The kitchen

Of course, the kitchen. The heart and soul of any house. The first thing you want is a fridge (filled with food preferably). Buy a large table, some silverware, dishes, and utensils. You want some pots and pans, a trash can, mixing bowls, and a corkscrew.

Another thing you need is a Tupperware set, a microwave, cutting boards, and a toaster. Of course, a proper oven and a dishwasher will make your life much easier. Of course, if you don’t have a dining room proper, then set up the kitchen in a way that works.

    Other

Finally, there are some things that don’t really fit into any specific room, but that you should get all the same. So, things like a flashlight, a vacuum cleaner, extension cords, candles… Extra lightbulbs, a small broom and a dustpan for quick cleaning. You want to be prepared for any emergency. So try to get a fire alarm as well.

    Conclusion

And that’s it, folks. Of course, this article is far from exhaustive, but it should give you a clue on what to focus on, and what you should get. After all, you want your transition to be as smooth and as fun as possible. Hopefully, this article will help you in making a list of things you absolutely need.
