How to conceal acne scars (or pimples!) in 3 simple steps?

Acne can have such a negative impact on your self esteem. When you wake up in the morning with a fresh batch of blemishes, it can be be a real downer.

Fighting the urge to poke or pop pimples can be a real challenge and if we’re being honest, it’s one we often fail out.

The problem is, the more you paw at your face during a breakout, the more likely you are to experience acne scars.

As if concealing your breakouts wasn’t bad enough, now you have to worry about camouflaging those acne scars until they fade away.

So how do you conceal acne scars the right way — in a manner that allows your skin time to heal and become stronger?

3 Simple Steps to Cover Up Acne Scars

Since you can’t Photoshop your scars away in real life, we want to share a simple 3 step process that will help you cover up your acne scars, as well as rejuvenate your skin to avoid scars in the future.

Easy to follow and absolutely effective, you’re going to feel confident in your skin again in no time.

And did we mention this process is also effective at covering fresh breakouts too? Let’s get to it shall we…

    1. Prep Your Skin for Healing

Whether you’re hiding scars or a brand new pimple you need to take step back before diving for your makeup bag. It’s incredibly important that you treat the affected skin first.

Using a simple spot treatment to reduce inflammation and redness is crucial in concealing scars and pimples, and we have a homemade remedy that tackles both of these issues.

    You will need:

    • 1 small raw potato
    • 1 teaspoon unprocessed honey

Start by peeling your potato and mashing it up until it becomes pulpy. You can do this with a fork or in a blender if you’re in a rush.

Once it’s pulped, scoop out 1/2 a tablespoon of potato pulp and mix with your unprocessed honey.

Clean your face using a gentle facial cleanser then apply this remedy to any new pimples or anywhere that you have acne scars.

Let this spot treatment soak in for at least 20 minutes. If you can let it sit over night, that’s even better.

Once done, rinse off and apply your favourite moisturizer.

    Why This Works

This simple spot treatment works because potatoes contain enzymes that breakdown pigmentation and skin discoloration caused by scars. They are rich in Vitamin A, B and C which are all well known for their skin brightening effects and ability to reduce the early signs of skin aging.

Honey on the other hand, contains anti inflammatory properties that reduce redness and inflammation caused by acne and scars. It is also a natural humectant, which means it traps moisture in your skin to rejuvenate damaged skin cells.

    2. Treat Bleeding Scars or Burst Pimples

It’s an unfortunately reality, but fresh scars have a tendency to be picked at and can start to bleed, while pimples can burst causing a nasty little mess.

It’s important to tackle these issues and treat them with the right product so you can properly conceal them.

To effectively hide acne scars and pimples, start by using a tinted blemish cream. Choose a formula that not only covers, but heals and protects your skin.

The right blemish cream will moisturize your skin, which will stop flaking skin from giving away your hidden scar secret.

    3. Camouflage Your Flaws

Now that we’ve prepped and treated our skin it’s safe to reach for that makeup bag.

Choosing a great concealer means more than finding one that matches your skin tone. It means finding one that blends into your natural skin tone, while offering buildable coverage.

    Why?

Because scars can create craters and pimples make ridges in your skin that require more than a quick sweep of foundation to hide effectively.

We highly recommend using a makeup brush to apply concealer so that it can get into all the crevices and dents caused by your acne and scars.

Dab or blot your concealer over the affected area, focusing on each individual scar and pimple until they are covered. Once that is complete, you can start blending out the rest of your face.

For a flawless finish (and to keep you concealer in place), sweep on a light layer of mineral powder. Mineral powders are super light, relatively translucent and give your skin a matte finish.

    Finding The Perfect Products

If you want to hide acne scars and pimples the right way it will require a few products. We’re confident that you have honey and potato lying around your kitchen somewhere so that takes care of the home remedy, but here are our top three choices for healing and concealing acne scars the right way.

Tinted Blemish Cream: Dr. Jart’s Premium Blemish Base — a triple action formula that moisturizes dry skin, stimulates skin cell turnover so healthy new skin can be made, and conceals without making your skin feel heavy.
