5 Healthy foods that Moms can overdo

Dietitians would usually give a recommendation on the amount of food you are allowed to eat. They do it to make sure that you will get just the right amount of nutrients. There are some foods that can have temporary effect to the person. For instance, too much orange will cause a temporary change in the skin color because of the beta-carotene content of the fruit. But this is not something that you should worry because this side-effect is harmless.

What you should avoid is over-consumption of food that may lead to too much nutrients. Vitamin A, for instance, should not be taken in excess because it can be a cause of liver damage, birth defects and weak bones. If you are looking for emotional eating help.

If you are thinking of the side effects of what you are consuming, here is a list of the foods that moms can overdo:

    1. Coffee

It does not matter if you love brewed coffee or espresso-based beverages. You may want it hot or cold but the caffeine content of coffee can actually cause a problem that may affect your hear and the nervous system. If you consume too much coffee, you will notice how your heart rate increases. Aside from that, you will surely experience sleep problems. This may not seem like a problem if it only happened to you once but it will certainly have a long term effect to your physical body. It may lead to insomnia.

Caffeine can be addicting. If you are pregnant, you need to lessen your intake because it may have an effect to your condition. Daily consumption of coffee is recommended as long as you limit it. You can have up to 400 mg of coffee per day. It can be helpful in improving your brain function and in lessening the risk of cardiovascular problems. If you want to increase your coffee intake, you should try to monitor how your body reacts to it. If you feel like you are having problems sleeping, take that as a sign for you to lessen your intake.

    2. Water

It may sound a bit shocking but there are instances when the amount of water that you are drinking is too much. This may become a reason for electrolytes to be flushed out of the body. This is something that you should avoid. Though it is always being recommended that people should be drinking more water, there is a limit to this and you should be aware if you already had enough.

When considering the amount of water you need, you have to consider different things. Your age and your daily activities can help you determine if you need more water. If you have a very active lifestyle and you are losing body liquids, you have to drink more water. Dehydration is the problem that lies at the other end of the spectrum. You should be able to determine how much water your body needs and the perfect time for you to get more liquid.

    3. Brown Rice

Brown rice contains more arsenic compared to other types of rice. This component of rice can be harmful to the bladder and it can also cause skin cancer. But this does not mean that you have to shift to another type just because of the negative effect. There are different benefits that you will be able to get from this specific kind of rice. It is a great source of nutrients that can be beneficial for your health. It contains manganese, vitamins B1 and B2 and other minerals that are great for your body.

If you want to enjoy the benefits you can get from brown rice, you should consider getting another variety that is proven to contain lesser arsenic. If you are looking for something that you can give to your child, you can also consider adding some non-rice cereal to his or her diet.

    4. Milk

Milk and other dairy products can also be harmful if taken excessively. This includes cheese and low fat milk. These are products that you usually include in your meals. Dairy products are great sources of magnesium, calcium, potassium and other minerals. It is already proven that the excessive amount of magnesium can be harmful to the body. It can be a reason for person to suffer from anemia because it can block the body’s iron absorption. With this, you have to make sure that you are not taking just enough amount of milk and other dairy products.

    5. Fish

There are several types of fish that should only be eaten reasonably.  This includes albacore tuna, mackerel, swordfish and shark. It is too risky to eat too much of these specific kinds of fish. This is because of the high level of mercury that can be toxic to the body. For pregnant women and young children, it can cause problems to their learning abilities, their hearing and even their coordination. For the adults, fish with high level of mercury can affect the heart, nerves and the immune system.

The main point being highlighted here are the risks of eating too much healthy food. You do not have to cut these foods from your diet because of the benefits they can provide. What you can do is to just make you that you eat the right amount.
