Why is it important to Diagnose Cancer Early?

Cancer is undoubtedly the most dreaded health condition that exists. There are several kinds of cancer which may affect almost any part or component of the body. What makes it worse is that without treatment not only many of the cancers may be fatal but severely degrade the quality of life before the final blow. However, one doesn’t have to suffer at the hands of them.

By being health conscious, following good lifestyle and constantly screening for different kinds of cancers may prevent a fatal condition. Most of the kinds when diagnosed early can be cured, removed or contained from getting out of hands. Oncologists in India opine that if you want to live long and prosperous, it is mandatory to opt for regular health check-ups and cancer screening.

Let’s see what are the chances of survival in some of the common cancer types.

    Breast Cancer:

Out of 100, more than 90 patients with breast cancer have a chance of surviving for more than 5 years if detected at an early stage. While when detected at more advanced stage the odds fall to less than 15%.

    Bowel cancer:

Similar to Breast cancer, in bowel cancer too, the odds are that more than 90 bowel cancer patients are likely to survive among 100 for more than 5 years when diagnosed at an early stage.

    Ovarian cancer:

Again, out of 100 patients suffering from Ovarian cancer, more than 90 patients are likely to survive for more than 5 years when detected at an early stage. The odds fall to less than 5% when the disease is detected at an advanced stage.

    Lung cancer:

In lung cancer patients about 70 out of 100 are likely to survive for about a year when detected at an early stage. The odds fall to about 14% when the diagnosis is made at an advanced stage.

Well, early diagnosis is just one step in the process of making survival chances better. It is also mandatory that after the diagnosis patient received the most appropriate treatment depending on the type and stage of cancer.

To improve the chances of early diagnosis it becomes important to spread awareness about the types of cancer, their symptoms and treatment options. A lot of people are apprehended just by the mention of cancer and, thus, avoid visiting a doctor at all for a proper diagnosis if a symptom is noticed. They fear what the check-up may reveal. That is a mistake that shouldn’t be ever done if you want to live a good life. As soon as you notice a symptom, get it checked and book an appointment with your doctor. If it is not possible to get the appointment anytime soon, you may also consult a doctor online for a preliminary opinion.
