6 daily habits that boost your memory and brain health

When recommending the memory, we often think about the process of collecting, storing, and retrieving information. When we are listening or reading something, a good memory can acquire all the information delivered. The human brains gather and store information the way computers do. However, while it is easy to retrieve information from a computer, almost all people feel very hard to recall an event or knowledge they have ever met or learned.

Your memory is the key to help you solve problems effectively and quickly. However, not all people are born with a naturally good memory, it is the result of a long training process. The best way to have a good memory is to improve your brain’s health by implementing healthy living habits as following:

    1. Doing exercises regularly

Doing exercise every day not only helps you improve your physical health but also enhances your mental health and your memory. Each day, you should spend about 30 minutes doing simple exercises such as going jogging, riding, yoga, etc. or playing sports such as swimming, badminton, basketball, etc. According to research implemented by Texas – Dallas University in the US in 2013, after 6 weeks of exercising daily, a group of over 50-year-old people has significantly improved their health in comparison to the group of people who do not work out.

    2. Eating more fruits and vegetables

According to a research by Harvard Medical School in the US, vegetables such as kale, cauliflower, cabbage, leek, spinach, and so on are rich in phytochemicals, which play a vital role in encouraging the activities of the human brain. Other foods such as turmeric, pumpkin seeds, nuts, dark chocolate, coffee, blueberries, avocado, almonds, etc. should also be added to daily meals. They are not only abundant in vitamins and minerals but also contain brain-protective antioxidants that help protect brain cells and stimulate their growth in the brain’s memory center.

    3. Consuming beverages for high brain functions

Wine, coffee, green tea, etc. are wonderful drinks for high brain functions. They can help you to recall and remember information effectively. Therefore, you should practice the habit of consuming these drinks every day for a better memory and brain health. However, be cautious when using them and consume a suitable amount only. For coffee and green tea, you should enjoy them in the morning for the best result.

    4. Reading books every day

Reading books every day not only helps to broaden your knowledge and reduce stress but also increases your memory. When you read a book, you will try your best to remember every character, detail, appearance, and characteristics. When your brain has to work with information continuously, your sensitivity and ability to capture information will also be promoted. Thereby, it helps enhance your memory. For this reason, you are advised to limit the time of watching a film or surfing the Internet and spend more time reading books to improve your brain functions. It even helps you to prevent Alzheimer’s diseases.

    5. Taking a nap

Taking a nap is very essential for people’s health, especially for those who work intellectually. Napping may help to regenerate brain cells, which is an effective way to improve assertiveness and workplace productivity in the afternoon. A 15 to 30-minute nap every lunch will help you to reduce the drowsiness, stress, and fatigue. The older should also take a nap daily to consolidate their memory and minimize the confusion.

    6. Learning a new foreign language

According to research published in Annals Neurology magazine (The US), people who know two or more foreign languages have a better memory than those who do not. The mental benefits of learning a second language can still take effect if you start to learn when you are old.

Studying a new language is said to be a good exercise for your brain, helping you to effectively enhance your mental health. Besides, it creates a chance for you to promote faster in your career.

If you cannot learn a new language, you can try to study many other things instead. Many people think that we should learn as much as possible when we are at school; however, this is a wrong idea. We should try our best to acquire new knowledge the whole life. If we stop learning, our memory will be negatively impacted, we will gradually forget what we have learned. Therefore, try to learn some new things every day to encourage brain activities and practice good memory.

To have a good memory, it is necessary to practice around the clock. A strong mind is not only meaningful to your career but also your daily life. You will live much more comfortable when you can recall all you need to do and implement them smoothly. Moreover, if you don’t practice, you can easily get diseases such as Parkinson or Alzheimer’s diseases when you become older. Therefore, don’t let your brain get old too fast just because of your laziness.
