How to Decorate Condo Your Living Room

Living in a condo has its pros and cons. For one, it has many on-site amenities such as a swimming pool, gym, playground, 24/7 security system, and function rooms. It’s also cheaper than single-family houses and requires little maintenance and fewer repairs.

As for the downside, condos are small and compact. You can’t buy as much furniture as you want because you don’t have the space for it. However, you can still decorate it to your taste.

The living room is a great place to add character to your condo since it’s where you can welcome guests, watch TV, and more. Elevating your living room can make your condo a more beautiful and comfortable place to live in.

How to Decorate Condo Your Living Room

Decorating your condo living room can get overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure about your interior design taste. Here are some tips to help you get started.

    1. Use a good sofa
One of the main features of any living room is the sofa. As such, you should invest in one that fits your aesthetic and is durable enough to last many years. When choosing one from the furniture store, check for size, style, fabric, and colors. Sofas are often expensive, so make sure your choice is worth your money.
    2. Add indoor plants
Indoor plants can elevate your space and provide many health benefits. It helps reduce stress, sharpen your attention, speed up your recovery from illness, and boost your productivity, among other things. There are many indoor plants you can choose from. You can use succulents, ferns, palms, photos, and philodendrons.

Indoor plants are usually low maintenance. Just remember to keep the potting soil moist, ensure the plant pot has drainage holes, and place them near a light source. Conduct more research if your indoor plant has specific requirements.
    3. Invest in multi-functional furniture
Multi-functional furniture can help you save space in your living room. You can opt for a TV stand with shelves and storage to display books, pictures, and other decorations. You can also use a sofabed to accommodate overnight guests, a storage ottoman to store items and serve as a bench, or an adjustable table to serve as a dinner and work table.
    4. Pick a color scheme
Colors can drastically change your living. For instance, painting your walls white can make your living room look bigger and brighter. Different shades of blue can create a more soothing mood or give off a fresh and energetic vibe. Meanwhile, yellow can make your living room look more cheerful.

Feel free to choose colors and elevate your living room. You can paint one side to create a feature wall, incorporate colors in decorations, or choose furniture with colorful accents.
    5. Use mirrors
Mirrors can add light and depth to your living room. You can lean an oversized mirror with a thin frame against your wall or hang a small one at eye level. You can also create a fully mirrored wall to create a tunnel effect in your space. This tip can help make your living room look like it has endless space.
    6. Opt for a few wall art
Consider sticking to only one or two statement wall art if you want to add unique decorations to your living room. Minimal decorations can make your living room look brighter and less cluttered.
    7. Hang your TV on the wall
Mounting your TV on the wall can free up space in your living room. It also helps you save on additional furniture like a TV stand. Wall-mounted TVs are also safer for children and pets since they won’t have to bump into the corners of the appliance and the stand if they’re playing around.

Additionally, wall-mounted TVs can be good for your back since you can display them at eye level, depending on your distance from the TV. You can even change the angle of your TV if you opt for a full-motion bracket.
    8. Use an open-frame coffee table
Coffee tables tend to make living rooms more compact and cluttered. So instead of bulky ones, choose open-framed coffee tables to give the illusion of space. You can also use the excess space under it for additional decorations or storage.
    9. Put additional lighting
Lighting can make or break the mood of your living room. Aside from the ceiling lights and natural light from your window, use floor and table lamps to illuminate dark spaces further.

You can also use different lighting types for various purposes. For instance, ambient lighting is perfect for entirely lighting up your living room. Task lighting such as desk lamps, undercabinet lights, and downlights are ideal for specific activities like working or reading.

Lastly, you can install accent lighting—such as wall-mounted fixtures and track lights—to highlight decorations, furniture, and other living room features.
    10. Seek help from an interior designer
If you’re still overwhelmed with living room design options, hire an interior designer to gain professional insights about your space. They can help you choose color palettes, purchase furniture tailor-fit for your place, and avoid costly mistakes.

However, be intentional with who you hire. Here are some interior design questions you can ask prospects before committing to a contract.
    1. Can you describe to me your design aesthetic?
    2. Can you show me a portfolio of your past projects?
    3. How much will you charge for this project?
    4. What items do you prioritize in the budget?
    5. Who will handle the procurement and purchasing?
    6. What happens if I don’t like your design?
    7. How long will the project take?

Getting to know an interior designer before hiring them ensures you get the most out of your money and design your living room the way you want.
