Tears are not always bad: The benefits of crying are many

    Tears are of various types where some are: reflexive which can help clearing irritants, continuous tears which are necessary to keep eyes lubricated, and other are emotional one which determines the sadness. Emotional tears are possible in the case of humans and animals. Some of the points are listed below which couples the point as to why crying is good for health.

    1.Crying uplifts your mood

    Crying helps to improve your mood as per a recent study crying helps you feel much better than their stoic counterparts. Your mood is particularly good after a good crying session. So, it’s not a very bad decision to shed some tears. It is helpful in lifting your mood for the better and is a good practice. Don’t shy away from crying.

    2. Tears helps releasing stress

    Shedding some precious tears will help you feel little less stressed out. According to a study we feel much better after crying because it removes chemicals which built up to stress. Tears contain ACTH which are responsible for the increase in stress. Due to this combination tears and stress is strongly correlated. Tears help to reduce the stress levels.

    High-stress levels can be very serious for the health of your heart and brain. You should never stop the young children from crying. Shedding tears is indeed a good habit.

    3. Tears cleanse the eye

    Being non-emotional is the carrier of various negative health conditions. The feeling of the constant rush of tears, while you are chopping the opinions, may seem to be a familiar experience. The procedure happens when the chemical from the onion hits the eye surface and forms sulphuric acid. To get rid of it tear glands produce tears to wash away the chemical out of the eye. Tears contain lysozyme, which is antibacterial and antiviral in nature, which helps in nourishing the surface of the eye and eyelids which washes away all sort of chemicals present on surface.

    Tears travel through the tear duct towards the nasal passages, where they encounter mucus. When tears mix with mucus, it gets loosened up which helps in keeping the nose moist and bacteria free.

    According to study, women cry on an average 5.3 times a month, while men cry for an average of 1.3 times per month which is quite a low percentage. Part of this disbalance can blamed to the testosterone which inhibit crying, while the hormone prolactin which is higher in women may encourage crying. Tear glands between men and women are very different in nature. But a major part of the stoic-ness in male can be blamed for the cultural disgrace placed by our society. Try to let go, pass on the emotions in the form of tears. Crying is good for health and it should not be gender biased.

    6. Dulls pain

    Shedding tears helps to release oxytocin, commonly known as endorphins. This helps to ease the physical and emotional pain. Once these endorphins are released, your body enters the stage of somewhat numbness. Oxytocin helps you feel more calm and relaxed. It’s yet another example of why crying is a self-soothing action.

    7. Improves mood

    Crying helps you lift your mood, specifically sobbing, which can be helpful in lifting the spirits. When you sob, you start inhaling deep breaths of cool air. Which helps to lower the temperature of your brain. A cool brain is particularly more pleasurable to our body and mind than a warm brain surrounded by the tension from every corner. As a result, your mood may substantially improve after a sobbing episode. So, don’t shy away from those sobbing sessions and make the best of the benefits of crying.

    The moment you are feeling blue, crying helps you cope up with the negative feelings. This is known as an interpersonal benefit. From the time while you were baby, crying has all been a necessary attachment. It is the way which helps you feel more comfortable and care for yourself. In other words, it helps in building up social support network for yourself which helps you to be happier and out of chaos.

    9. Recover from grief

    Grieving is the process which involves sorrow, guilt, and anger. Crying in particularly very crucial in coping up with the grief. It helps you process the loss of the loved one quickly , while on the other hand if you fail to cry. The sorrow and the numbness stay for a very prolong period.

    10. Restores emotional balance

    Crying doesn’t always happen when you are very sad. Sometimes you can shed a tear or two ,when you are extremely happy, scared, or stressed out. Crying helps to restore the emotional equilibrium in case  of disbalance. It helps your body recover from any strong trambulance.

    11. Helps baby breathe

    A baby’s first cry out of the womb is a very crucial cry for the survival of the baby. Babies receive oxygen through the umbilical cord. Once a baby is delivered, they start to breathe on their own. The first cry helps a baby’s lungs adapt to life pre-existing outside the safe atmosphere of the womb.

    Crying helps babies clear the extra fluid in the lungs, nose, and mouth.

    When should you seek help?

    Crying is the response to something that eventually makes you happy or sad to cry after the certain event is normal and healthy. Don’t shy away from shedding tears those tears help you feel the need to release the stress hormones. The Excessive crying is something you should discuss with your doctor, however. If you start crying in the middle of nowhere these are the initial signs of depression.

    Other symptoms of depression include:

    • Feelings of constant sadness
    • High frustration
    • Drastic changes in appetite,or weight loss
    • Lack of energy
    • Troubled sleeping pattern
    • Unexplained aches or pains in the body
    • Constant thoughts of death or suicide
